Blog Entry 4: Blog as memoir in Hyperbole and a Half

Blog Entry 4: Blog as memoir in Hyperbole and a Half

Please complete the reading for this week on Brosh’s blog before writing this post! (not essential to do ALL of it really, but you need to read at least one or two entries to write this post)

For this week’s blog entry: (300-600+ words)

Revisit the blog we’re reading for this week, Hyperbole and a Half, and choose one or maybe two blog entries that particularly struck you in some way. In particular, choose one or a series of images that Brosh uses in an entry that jumped out at you.

Please include a link to the entry you’re writing about, or better yet, you could include the specific image here if you’d like us to really see what you’re focusing on.

  • DESCRIBE what’s going on. What is the image of, and what’s the context?
  • ARGUE whether this is a funny image or not. Why? What visual elements are at play?
  • SPECULATE as to how this image or series of images “work.” Does it rely on the context of the narrative, or can it stand on its own as a work of art?
  • REACT as to the effectiveness of this particular piece and the blog entry as a whole.
This entry can be a starting off point for your next paper, the Blog Analysis. Be sure to look at that assignment sheet and think about where you’ll want to go with that!

REMEMBER: A blog (noun) is the entire work and therefore the title should be in italics when you refer to it.

A blog entry is a smaller piece belonging to the entire work and therefore should be in quotation marks when you refer to it. Most blog entries have titles (ours do!), but in case there isn’t one, refer to it by the date on which it was posted.

To blog (verb) is the act of writing a blog entry, and a blogger is the state of being an author of a blog.

Have fun with this!

Enjoy!
